S550 Second stage The SCUBAPRO's Air-Balanced Linear-Flow Valve technology adopted in the S550 represents the ultimate in air flow performance. Based on SCUBAPRO's proven downstream linear valve design, the air-balanced version adds a pneumatic balancing chamber to offset the force of downstream air entering from the first stage. Balancing reduces the spring tension required to hold the flow valve closed, while maintaining sufficient pressure to allow for the safety of a downstream override. Because spring tension is the primary cause of inhalation resistance, the smaller, lighter spring used in SCUBAPRO's Air-Balanced Linear-Flow Valve can provide the lowest possible inhalation effort. The result is an ultra-high air flow that remains exceptionally stable under all breathing conditions. • Technopolymer Body and Components • Peak Performance Air Balancing System • Air-Balanced Linear-Flow Valve • Diver-Adjustable VIVA • High-Flow Exhaust Valve • Lightweight, Compact Size • Ergonomic, Safe-Grip Mouthpiece First stage Mk 18 Diaphragm P.A.S.S. - [Piston Assisted Seat] SCUBAPRO’s new Piston Assisted Seat technology rewrites the rules on diaphragm regulator design. On conventional diaphragm regulators, a flat seat seals against a fixed, knife-edge orifice. The coated surface of the seat is susceptible to high pressure failure, while the system’s design creates additional turbulence as the moving air is redirected around the seat and through the orifice. The P.A.S.S. system utilizes a guided Piston type stem with a rounded edge which seals against a concave acetalic resin seat. Because the P.A.S.S. system forms a superior seal with less pressure, and because it is driven by a guided and aligned piston rather than floating on a lifting rod, the P.A.S.S. system can operate with lighter spring tension and less mechanical lag. This, combined with the venturi effect in the HSC, boosts both air delivery performance and response time.
